1 4-H Youth Leadership Trips

2 To attend trips as a 4-H member and receive Leaders Association funding…
You need to be currently enrolled in Kewaunee County 4-H You need to be a member in good standing (attended (4) club meetings and maintained the 4-H expectation statement) Complete and turn in an application by October 31st, 2017 to the UW-Extension office Have parent approval to attend trips Willingness to learn new information, meet new people, gain leadership skills, and have fun! Share your experience with your club or on a county level Please note, some trips have a limit on the number of members that can attend per county. The leaders association budget determines how many youth can be supported by paying half of the cost of the trip. 3 4-H Missions in Space (Space Camp) Huntsville, Alabama April 20-24, 2017
Participation Age: Currently 6th - 8th Grade with a maximum age of 15 at time of trip. Location: The U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, AL: What are you going to do: Complete a simulated Space Shuttle mission Experience training simulators Tour the U.S. Space & Rocket Center Learn about becoming an astronaut. 4 Winter Leadership Camp Camp Tapawingo, Manitowoc Feb 10-12, 2017
Participant Age: Youth currently in grades 6th-8th are eligible for the trip. Only three spots are available to each county and when qualifications are equal, preference will be given to 8th grade members. Location: Camp Tapawingo, Manitowoc What are you going to do as part of this experience: Meet other 4-H members from the East Metro Regions Work on improving their leadership skills through hands-on, interactive leadership sessions.  Gain a better understanding of what it means to be a leader and how to apply being a youth leader in their club, county, and school.  Recreational activities that may include camp fires (indoor), sledding/tubing, snowshoeing, crazy games, indoor crafts/games and other outdoor activities. Cost: $ Half the cost (not including travel to camp) paid for by the Kewaunee County 4-H Leaders’ Association for members selected for the experience. 5 Wisconsin 4-H & Youth Conference Madison, WI June 26-29, 2017
Participation Age: Currently in grades 7th-10th grades. Location: Madison, WI on the University of Wisconsin Campus What are you going to do during this experience: Meet 4-H members from throughout WI Explore the UW-Madison campus Participate in fun and educational workshops like kayaking and other water sports, art, photography, poetry writing, and agriculture. Cost: The trip costs about $250 plus travel fees Half the cost (not including travel to bus stop and incidentals) paid for by the Kewaunee County 4-H Leaders’ Association for members selected for the experience. Citizenship Washington Focus Washington, D.C. – Several weeks in June - July Participant Age: Currently in 10th – 12th grades. Ages Not older than 19 as of December 31st Location: Washington, D.C. at the National 4-H Center What are you going to do during this experience: See citizenship in action Chat with our nation’s leaders Workshops on democracy, basics of good citizenship, and community action planning Visit national memorials Venture through the Smithsonian Museum, Cost: The trip costs about $1200 Half the cost (not including travel to bus stop and incidentals) paid for by the Kewaunee County 4-H Leaders’ Association for members selected for the experience. 7 National Congress Atlanta, Georgia Nov 24-28, 2017
Participant Age: Applicants must be in 10th - 12th grade at time of selection. Maximum age is 18 as of January 1st. Location: Atlanta, GA What are you going to do at this experience? Considered the flagship of the 4-H trips It is an opportunity to visit another state with 4-H members across the nation Service learning and leadership will be key in this six day trip. Cost: The trip costs about $1,100 Half the cost (not including travel to airport and incidentals) paid for by the Kewaunee County 4-H Leaders’ Association for members selected for the experience. 8 Participant Age: 8th-10th grades
Location: Northeast United States and Canada (Philadelphia, Boston, NYC and Niagara Falls) What are you going to do as part of this experience: Learn about the steps to independence and freedom on a journey through their American Heritage. Visit sites of historical importance. Past trips included visits to an Amish village, Valley Forge, Philadelphia, New York, Mayflower II, Plymouth Rock, Boston, Freedom Trail, and Niagara Falls. Youth need to have a sincere interest in learning about our history and heritage. Whale watching and a lobster dinner are also included in this trip. Special Note: You will need a passport to travel to Canada.  Cost: The approximate cost is $ Half the cost (not including travel to bus stop, passport fees, extra meal money, and incidentals) paid for by the Kewaunee County 4- H Leaders’ Association for members selected for the experience. 9 Trips with a statewide selection process: National 4-H Conference  March 24-30, 2017 (includes travel days) April 6-12, 2018 (includes travel days) Participant Age: Be in 10th-12th grade during the program. Minimum age 15 and maximum age 18 as of January 1, 2017; Be nominated at the county level and Carry county approval through time of award trip. What are you going to do during this experience: Held at the National 4-H Center in Chevy Chase, Maryland, it’s usually scheduled around the beginning of April with approximately 350 delegates, including six from Wisconsin. Each participant selects an issue (education, promotion, environment, violence, etc.) and works with other delegates to develop plans directing future 4 H programming. Delegates spend the majority of time contributing to stimulating, task oriented groups. One day is spent on Capitol Hill meeting with legislators and touring Costs: The total cost of the National 4 H Conference trip is approximately $1,200. The Wisconsin 4-H Foundation sponsors a portion of the cost. Many county 4-H Youth Development programs provide partial local sponsorships. The remaining amount is the responsibility of the delegate and his/her family.
