3
Objectives Understand the implications of Essbase and OBIEE Infrastructure possibilities
4
Agenda Overview Describe Oracle BI Cloud, OBIEE hosted and OBIEE on premise solutions and benefits Review when it makes sense to use each solution Describe Hyperion Planning Cloud, Hyperion Planning hosted and Hyperion Planning on premise solutions Discuss longer-term implications of how infrastructure leads into the rest of the solutions. Demo OBIEE Cloud as time permits Questions
5
Essbase and BI Cloud Session Overview
Included: --An understanding of Cloud, On-premise and Hosted Solutions --When to use each one -- Long-term implications --Demo Oracle BI Not Included: --Complex infrastructure debates --Super in-depth analysis of Cloud offerings --Other Cloud based Solutions
6
What is the Cloud? On-Premise-traditional infrastructure including installation, configuration, maintenance, patching, control and integration. Oracle Cloud—Oracle’s version of the products but in a Cloud format. Hosted Cloud—same fully featured as on-premise but without long-term infrastructure setup issues.
7
On-Premise vs Oracle Cloud
Integration Active Directory Lack of Control Backups Oracle Cloud On-premise Automated Patching Control Inside Support Outside Support Manual Patching Network Network Limited Functionality Full Functionality Versioning No Installation
8
On-Premise vs Hosted Cloud
Full Integration Active Directory Control Backups On-premise Hosted Cloud Patching Control Inside Support Outside Support Manual Patching Network Network Full Functionality Full Functionality Versioning Installation
9
Areas of Concern Data Integration Network/AD Functionality Versioning
Control
10
Oracle BI Cloud-features and functionality
RPD, reporting, visual analyzer, etc
11
When to use: Oracle BI Cloud
New Implementation or usage is limited to smaller subject areas Ok with building out solution as time goes by. Starting out with data implementation that can easily go into the cloud. Don’t want to install.
12
When to use: BI Hosted Have a large benefit to stop using own Infrastructure but do not want Oracle Cloud because it lacks full functionality.
13
When to use: BI On Premise
Large existing installations Need full features of OBIEE Need to integrate with other solutions e.g. Hyperion Need multiple subject areas
14
Oracle Hyperion Cloud Planning Cloud-features and functionality
Planning UI, Plan Types Data loading SmartView Planning Provider vs Essbase Provider
15
When to use: Hyperion Planning Cloud
New Implementation or usage is smaller not that many applications in use. At a good restart point with old solution. Ok with building out solution as it evolves to a more fully featured solution. Starting out with data implementation that can easily go into the cloud.
16
When to use: Hyperion Planning Hosted
Have a large benefit to stop using own Infrastructure but do not want Oracle Cloud because it lacks full functionality. Integration elements missing from Oracle Cloud that are needed. Have more complex environment with more applications.
17
When to use: Hyperion Planning On Premise
Large existing installations—complex applications with a lot of integration Need full features of Hyperion Planning Need to integrate with other solutions e.g. OBIEE Need to create multiple plan applications. Other custom development code that cannot currently move to cloud
18
Upcoming Essbase Cloud
Excel for data loading and creation Eventual integration with BICS and Hyperion Financial Reports “Reconnect with Small and mid-market” Glenn Schwartzberg Hopeful release sometime in FY2016
19
Long-term Implications--Infrastructure
Don’t want to install. Don’t want to worry about lack of disk space Installation and Infrastructure consultants become Cloud and Integration consultants.
20
Long-term Implications—Prior Content
Answers becomes Visual Analyzer? Report Transformation? ETL Transformation, redo work? Hyperion Objects—reports, Maxl, Essbase Studio how to they change
21
Long-term Implications—Throw away work and skills
Avoiding throw-away work and skills but how to continue to get things done? Avoiding proprietary fixed coding, e.g. specific tons of logic to calculate and transform out of EBS Use tools to leverage changes and updates e.g DRM Code using SQL, document key changes and help Reporting—assume it might all change
22
Long-term Implications—Future of Cloud
Most issues with hosted Cloud and Oracle Cloud will go away Cost will become cheaper to use Hosted and Oracle Cloud long-term Oracle Cloud will become fully featured at some-point IMHO: 10 Years from now most users will go from on premise to Cloud
23
Long-Term Businesses Function in core ways
Infrastructure viewed as a cost not strength for most companies—Cloud helps companies scale and not worry about activities they are better off not doing. Consulting—crises precipitate change—Will reliance on consultants be reduced as functionality simplifies? Business Sophistication—calculations, business change, and integration focus on value add for clients
24
OBIEE Demo of cloud
25
Key Takeaways Understand the business value of on premise, hosted cloud, vs cloud and knowing when to use the Cloud for Hyperion and OBIEE.
