10. Finding open access material
Library discovery services help surface subscription and open access content.
All of the materials in previous slides listed in StarPlus.
Google Scholar – in settings use library links to add your institution to include links to subscription materials.

11. Open Access Button
Searches the web for a version of the paper that you can access immediately. If unsuccessful, it s the author and looks for more information.

12. What if it isn’t OA and my institution doesn’t have a subscription?
Use the interlibrary loan service offered by the Library at your institution

13. A note of caution…
Be aware that published material is likely to be subject to licence terms and conditions or copyright
Please don’t take the concept of open access too literally, and share or post copies or downloads of material that are subject to licence T&Cs or copyright restrictions.
Publishers could take action against you and your institution.

There are disreputable publishers out there who will try to exploit less experienced researchers.
Plenty of good advice on the OASPA site, and from Think Check Submit, a campaign to help researchers identify trusted journals for their research.

15. Open access presses
WRUP launched earlier this year, digital publisher of peer-reviewed academic journals and books, publishing across a wide range of academic disciplines.
Run jointly by the Universities of Leeds, Sheffield and York.
