Accepted Jesus as my savior in 3rd grade.
My mom became children’s minister at my church in 2006, and I fell in love with serving with kids. Became sick after returning from Haiti. Sickness lasted for 9 months, and had my gallbladder removed in emergency surgery. Birth Salvation Service Missions Sickness Redemption August 27, 1996 Honolulu, Hawaii Felt a strong call to the missions field, and in August of 2012, I went on my first mission trip to Haiti. Leadership Identity Development Timeline Description
To begin this project, I had to ask myself, “What events in my life shaped me to be the leader I am today?” and, “What leadership traits did I develop by these situations?” I chose six events in my life that I feel have changed me as a person and have helped develop me as a leader. In the past few weeks I have learned that good leaders display a specific set of traits. These traits may also vary depending on the type of a leader a person is. While going through my 9 month sickness period, I developed the trait of determination. Although I did not handle the situation at the time with the attitude of perseverance, it taught me that the best way to handle tough situations is to push through them. Determination also “includes characteristics such as persistence and drive” (Northhouse 25). Through serving with children, I learned how to be a servant leader. A servant leader “focuses on their followers’ needs in order to help these followers become more autonomous, knowledgeable, and like servants themselves” (Northhouse 3). Determination and servant leadership have both shaped me into the person and leader I am today. Works cited Northouse, Peter Guy. Introduction to Leadership. Concepts and Practice.
