STAR interview technique. Situation – set the context for your story. Task – what was required of you. Activity – what you actually did. Result – how well the situation played out.

13 “Why do you want to leave your present job?”
My boss is a psycho and my colleagues are maniacs and the general atmosphere is toxic! I need some new challenges. This position really appeals to me because it would allow me to manage a bigger team and sell more innovative products. I’d like to work for a bigger company with more opportunities for growth.

14 Ideal answer Leaving to move toward a better opportunity, not fleeing from a bad opportunity. I am only thinking about leaving because this new opportunity (and the company offering it) is just SO great. Maybe I wasn’t even looking. Maybe I am happy in my current role, but just could not resist this interview because the position is your dream job.

15 Why should we hire you? Creative Enthusiastic Committed Flexible
Communicative Impactful Competent Organized Decisive Proactive Disciplined Persistent Dynamic Recognized Energetic

I definitely see myself employed within this company for the next five years and beyond. I feel that your company and I share some of the same values, such as _______ and _______. I would really like to take those to a superior level with the help of this company.

18 What questions can you ask?
About promotion prospects; About opportunities to travel; About remuneration; Pension and healthcare scheme; Holidays.

19 Buying time That’s a very good question…
Let me just think about that for a moment. I am glad you asked me that because… Well, without going into too much detail…

20 Buying time I thought you might ask me something about that.
I haven’t really thought about that, but… I am afraid I don’t know the answer to that question, but…

21 "Would you rather fight 1 horse-sized duck, or 100 duck-sized horses?"

22 Weird interview questions
"What would the name of your debut album be?" "How would you sell hot coco in Florida?" "How would you find a needle in a haystack?" "What would you do if you found a penguin in the freezer?" "If you were a brand, what would your motto be?"
