OSCE Approach to Countering VERLT
The OSCE promotes A multi-dimensional understanding of VERLT including the broad range of drivers and conditions conducive The development of comprehensive, strategic responses Gender awareness and compliance with human rights and the rule of law Multi-stakeholder collaboration among different actors: govn’t, civil society, media, and private sector Preventive and context-specific measures for awareness raising and engagement (‘soft approach’) Criminal justice response in line with international human rights and rule of law

Examples of OSCE focus and activities to Prevent and Counter VERLT
National multi-stakeholder policy seminars; Expert meetings and workshops resulting in recommendations and good practice documents (gender, youth, internet); Promoting community policing approaches to preventing terrorism and countering VERLT: publication of a policy guidebook including guidance for front line officers training; Integrating gender aspects in policies and measures to prevent and counter VERLT, including operational responses; Capacity building for civil society, new “Leaders against Intolerance and Violent Extremism” initiative #UnitedCVE communication campaign through social media;

Objectives To increase knowledge and understanding of local population in respect to radicalization and violent extremism To enable local population to build resilience from the inside to VERLT To highlight the role of mothers as positive agents of change To gather feedback from local community on how to counter VERLT from their perspective To help establish links with stakeholders in relation to VERLT Law enforcement Clergy Administration
