5 Governor’s Mansion History
Completed in 1855 Starting in 1855, Illinois governors began occupying this red brick mansion in downtown Springfield. Joel A. Matteson and his family were to first to move in, followed by William Bissell. The mansion originally cost $31,000 to build.
