2 ELISHA THE LIFE OF The Shunammite’s Son Resurrected
Lesson 8  11/30/16

3 14 What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? ~ James 2:14

4 “Women who received their dead raised to life again …”
Hebrews 11:35

5 8 … where there was a notable woman ….
2 Kings 4:8 “great woman” wealth, influence, or character

6 (Two Resting Places)

8 13 And He will love you and bless you and multiply you; He will also bless the fruit of your womb and the fruit of your land, your grain and your new wine and your oil, the increase of your cattle and the offspring of your flock, in the land of which He swore to your fathers to give you. 14 You shall be blessed above all peoples; there shall not be a male or female barren among you or among your livestock. ~ Deuteronomy 7:13-14

9 3 Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb is a reward. 4 Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, so are the children of one’s youth. 5 Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them; ~ Psalm 127:3-5

10 4 Blessed shall be the fruit of your body …
4 Blessed shall be the fruit of your body …. 18 Cursed shall be the fruit of your body. ~ Deuteronomy 28:4, 18

12 15 So he said, “Call her.” When he had called her, she stood in the doorway. 16 Then he said, “About this time next year you shall embrace a son.” And she said, “No, my lord. Man of God, do not lie to your maidservant!” ~ 2 Kings 4:15-16

13 Nothing is to take God’s place in our lives as the source of our security, significance, satisfaction, and the means of stability – not even our children.

14 A Lapse of Faith A physical miracle.

15 A Lapse of Faith A physical miracle. A willingness to become vulnerable and susceptible to pain.

16 17 Command those who are rich in this present age not to be haughty, nor to trust in uncertain riches but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy. 18 Let them do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to give, willing to share, 19 storing up for themselves a good foundation for the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life. ~ 1 Timothy 6:17-19

17 7 Two things I request of You (deprive me not before I die): 8 Remove falsehood and lies far from me; give me neither poverty nor riches — feed me with the food allotted to me; 9 lest I be full and deny You, and say, “Who is the Lord?” or lest I be poor and steal, and profane the name of my God. ~ Proverbs 30:7-9

18 10 “So it shall be, when the Lord your God brings you into the land of which He swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give you large and beautiful cities which you did not build, 11 houses full of all good things, which you did not fill, hewn-out wells which you did not dig, vineyards and olive trees which you did not plant—when you have eaten and are full— 12 then beware, lest you forget the Lord who brought you out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage. ~ Deuteronomy 6:10-12

19 11 “Beware that you do not forget the Lord your God by not keeping His commandments, His judgments, and His statutes which I command you today, 12 lest—when you have eaten and are full, and have built beautiful houses and dwell in them; 13 and when your herds and your flocks multiply, and your silver and your gold are multiplied, and all that you have is multiplied; 14 when your heart is lifted up, and you forget the Lord your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.” ~ Deuteronomy 8:11-14

20 to lie or deceive by lies; to disappoint
16 Then he said, “About this time next year you shall embrace a son.” And she said, “No, my lord. Man of God, do not lie to your maidservant!” ~ 2 Kings 4:16 “kazab” to lie or deceive by lies; to disappoint

21 to be quiet, to be at ease; to be prosperous, to be secure;
28 So she said, “Did I ask a son of my lord? Did I not say, ‘Do not deceive me’?” ~ 2 Kings 4:28 “shala” to be quiet, to be at ease; to be prosperous, to be secure; to be deceived or misled

22 1 You have relieved me in my distress.
~ Psalm 4:1 “rahab” “by or in my distress you have enlarged me”

31 The Shunammite was a well-to-do lady.

32 17 Command those who are rich in this present age not to be haughty, nor to trust in uncertain riches but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy. 18 Let them do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to give, willing to share, 19 storing up for themselves a good foundation for the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life. ~ 1 Timothy 6:17-19

33 The Shunammite was a well-to-do lady.
She did not trust in the uncertainty of riches.

34 The Shunammite was a well-to-do lady.
She did not trust in the uncertainty of riches. She was not proud and arrogant over her wealth.

35 The Shunammite was a well-to-do lady.
She did not trust in the uncertainty of riches. She was not proud and arrogant over her wealth. She used her wealth to help others in need, laying up treasures in heaven.

36 She believed in the value of God’s Word, therefore she supported the ministry of His prophet.

37 She demonstrated her faith was growing and active by her attitudes and her works.

38 14 What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, “Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,” but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? 17 Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. 18 But someone will say, “You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. ~ James 2:14-18

39 19 And not being weak in faith, he did not consider his own body, already dead (since he was about a hundred years old), and the deadness of Sarah’s womb. 20 He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God. ~ Romans 4:19-20

40 To truly live by faith means we must learn to be vulnerable and to trust God with all our fears and anxieties and unknowns if we are going to experience the maximum out of life and see the power of God.

41 8 By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going. ~ Hebrews 11:8

42 To live by faith also means learning to immediately go to the Lord in all of life.

43 23 O Lord, I know the way of man is not in himself; it is not in man who walks to direct his own steps. ~ Jeremiah 10:23

44 3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. 5 For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also abounds through Christ. ~ 2 Corinthians 1:3-5

45 39 And all these, having obtained a good testimony through faith, did not receive the promise, 40 God having provided something better for us, that they should not be made perfect apart from us. ~ Hebrews 11:39-40
