What will be ahead?
11
Future opportunities The economics of railway operation:
Railway Industry Cluster Saxony Future opportunities The economics of railway operation: Expenses are a function of time Earnings are a function of distance Result: fast and frequent services with high load factors are most efficient (and also attractive for users)
12
Future opportunities Railway Industry Cluster Saxony
Global market trends Urban mobility and commuter transport (tram systems, metros, automatic metros) 2. Very high speed passenger transport 3. High speed freight transport
13
Future opportunities Railway Industry Cluster Saxony
Priorities for innovation in today‘s railway operation Safety (risk based safety definition, where risk = probability * severity i.e. active safety measures (schedule, signalling, train control) * passive safety measures (EN and EN 15227) 2. Reliability through availability (on time /late arrival) - EN RAMS (DMU up to 95%, EMU up to 98%) 3. Efficiency (low energy consumption) and low emission (noise, energy-mix)

Future opportunities Railway Industry Cluster Saxony
ERCI technical workshops will address hot topics throughout Europe Energy management, efficiency, saving (TSB Berlin) Predictive maintenance and monitoring (i-trans Lille) Reduction of noise and vibrations (BTS Dresden, Leipzig) Freight: Traffic management, automatic load moving, urban freight, multimodality (rtca Vienna) Signalling and safety (ERTMS and others) (CNA Nuremberg) LCC, refurbishment (railgrup Barcelona) Shared vision of transport (together with ERRAC, railalliance)
16
Future opportunities To conclude: Railway Industry Cluster Saxony
In the future Rail Transport will be: Faster More reliable More important And will need more qualified people
