Between 1972 and 1973, the Twin Towers were the tallest buildings in the world until the construction of the Willis Tower in Chicago The World Trade Center was a complex located in Lower Manhattan, New York, United States, where stood the twin towers destroyed on September 11, 2001 because of an attack. Already in 1993 the World Trade Center had suffered a minor attack, which killed more than 1,000 mainly wounded. Besides the 19 hijackers had approximately 2,973 people confirmed dead and about 24 still missing.

The process of cleanup and recovery at the World Trade Center site took eight months. On the morning of September 11, 2001, Al-Qaeda-affiliated hijackers flew two 767 jets into the complex, one into each tower, in a coordinated suicide attack. After burning for 56 minutes, the South Tower (2) collapsed, followed a half-hour later by the North Tower (1), with the attacks on the World Trade Center resulting in 2,750 deaths.

UU. most terrible in the history of country.
