2 Careers advice in higher education
One to one careers advice unreasonable given increased participation. Transitions into graduate employment difficult and complex. Adopt a proactive rather than responsive attitude Move away from a traditional “bolt on” approach!

3 What interventions influence graduate employability?
Will the intervention be based in the academic curriculum or delivered as an extra curricula activity? Will career and employability specialists be involved in the design and/or delivery of the intervention? Will the intervention involve employers or actual work experience? Will the intervention be formally or informally assessed?  (Pegg, Waldock, Hendy-Isaac and Lawton, 2012) Higher education institutions offer a range of different interventions which are designed to influence graduate employability (Pegg, Waldock, Hendy-Isaac and Lawton, 2012). There are a number of key design issues that influence the nature of these interventions which are summarised as follows Talk through slide To encourage student driven engagement with career planning and employability University of Hull Careers Service

Module input – guest lecturer Professional & Research Skills for Biologists Academic Seminars GEES and Mathematics Personal Supervision ? Module Students were not provided with a job to apply for, but were asked to find and apply for a job appropriate for a graduate in biology – that is, the job needed to make use of the skills and knowledge they had learned during their biology degree, but in a fairly broad sense. They were also permitted to apply for postgraduate course, voluntary positions and the job could be short or long term. The idea of the assessment was not to have the students fulfill the requirements of a specific job, but to produce generic reference materials that could be used to apply for a similar job in the figure, once updated. Seminars students presented on jobs/postgraduate courses Supervision To encourage student driven engagement with career planning and employability
