1 YOUR BIO-MOLECULES EXAM IS ON FRIDAY.
I AM ALSO TAKING UP YOUR COMPOSITION BOOKS FOR A GRADE ON FRIDAY. Make sure your TOC is caught up. All 9 items are present. Make sure your Objectives are marked (what we did for a bellringer yesterday) Intro, Protein, Carbs/Lipids, and Nucleic Acid notes have an essential question, 2 side questions, and an answer to the essential question at the bottom. Bellringer goal from yesterday is completed. Pizza Mush Lab is Completed ALL SHEETS MUST BE GLUED OR TAPED.

2 Brainstorm with your group…
There are four Bio-Molecules There are six cards that go with each Bio-Molecule Subunit/Monomer A picture In your body Out of your body Fact one Fact two See how well you can match the cards with the correct Bio-Molecule. Call me over when you are finished.

3 FACT 1 IN YOUR BODY FACT 2 OUTSIDE YOUR BODY
They are made of a 1:2:1 ratio of Carbon: Hydrogen: Oxygen. This is where this biomolecule get it’s name. • Is stored as glycogen (in muscles and liver) for energy • Broken down in the cells to make ATP Monosaccharide -made ONLY of Carbon, Oxygen, and Hydrogen FACT 2 OUTSIDE YOUR BODY • In the cell walls of bacteria, plants, and fungus. • Is stored as starch (in plants) for energy This biomolecule is the #1 source of energy.

4 • Everywhere: skin, hair, muscles, bones
FACT 1 IN YOUR BODY • Everywhere: skin, hair, muscles, bones Includes enzymes, which help break other molecules apart AND put them together. • In the plasma membranes of all your cells to help transport molecules in and out of the cell. Amino Acid CONTAINS NITROGEN Each Amino Acid has a ‘R group’ that varies with each amino acid molecule FACT 2 OUTSIDE YOUR BODY They are also called ‘poly-peptides’ because the bonds in between it’s building blocks are called ‘peptide bonds’. • All meats • Nuts and beans

5 FACT 1 IN YOUR BODY FACT 2 OUTSIDE YOUR BODY
• Hormones: steroids, such as estrogen and testosterone Insoluble in water (cannot dissolve) • Most of your plasma membrane is made of this type of biomolecule Fatty Acid Tails Long chains of Carbon and Hydrogen FACT 2 OUTSIDE YOUR BODY Long time energy storage. • Oils • Waxes

6 FACT 1 IN YOUR BODY FACT 2 OUTSIDE YOUR BODY
• DNA which makes up your chromosomes. Information storage in the form of a code • RNA, used in protein synthesis: mRNA the messenger, rRNA the ribosome, tRNA the amino acid supplier. Nucleic Acid Contains a sugar, phosphate group, and nitrogenous base (ATCG) FACT 2 OUTSIDE YOUR BODY The closer the sequence to another organism, the closer you are related. • Found in all living things in different amounts. • Also found in small amounts in viruses.
