REGULAR VERBS Verbs whose INFINITIVES end in -ar follow a pattern.

REGULAR VERBS The endings show who is doing the action: (yo) hablo, (tú) hablas, and so on.

IRREGULAR VERBS Verbs that do not follow certain patterns are called IRREGULAR verbs.

The verb ‘ir’ IR means to go
It is almost always followed by the word ‘a’ in Spanish. Voy a – I am going to…

You must put to memory the forms of “ir” because it is an irregular verb and it follows no pattern.

TO GO (In English) I go You go He She goes It We go They go

IR (To go) Yo voy Tú vas Ud. Él va Ella Nosotros vamos Vosotros vais
Uds. Ellos van Ellas

Ir + a + INFINITIVE We use a form of the verb ir + a + infinitive to tell what someone is going to do.

IR + a + INFINITIVE Yo voy a nadar. Y tu, vas a jugar fútbol?
I’m going to swim. And you, are you going to play soccer?

Ir + a + location To say to where someone is going we use ir + a + location Voy a la biblioteca. Vas al gimnasio. *’a’ followed by ‘el’ in reference to a noun becomes the word ‘al’

Where to… Adónde ¿Adónde vas? – to where are you going
Adónde is mainly only used with the verb ir
