Verbs whose INFINITIVES end in -ar follow a pattern.

Verbs that do not follow certain patterns are called IRREGULAR verbs.

5. The verb ‘ir’ IR means to go
It is almost always followed by the word ‘a’ in Spanish.

9. Ir + a + INFINITIVE
We use a form of the verb ir + a + infinitive to tell what someone is going to do.

10. IR + a + INFINITIVE Yo voy a nadar. Y tu, vas a jugar fútbol?
I’m going to swim. And you, are you going to play soccer?

11. Ir + a + location
To say to where someone is going we use ir + a + location
Voy a la biblioteca.
Vas al gimnasio.
*’a’ followed by ‘el’ in reference to a noun becomes the word ‘al’

Adónde is mainly only used with the verb ir
