Families
3
Family Children were expected to behave the same as their parents.
Boys were allowed to explore the outdoors, hunt and fish. Girls were expected to tend to the house, helping their mothers cook, wash, clean, and sew.
4
Many children learned to read, but most households owned only the Bible and other religious books.
There were a few books written for children, but these often warned against bad behavior and described the punishment that children would suffer for sinful acts: Like getting put in stocks.
6
Religion
7
The religion of the people at that time was called Puritan.
This religion is very strict and is hard. The Christian gatherings back then were illegal because everybody was “supposed” to be Puritan. Citizens were said to have religious freedom, but they really had none. This means the people couldn’t do any other type of worship.

To the Puritans, the Devil was as real as God.
The people thought that witches were possessed by the devil.
