First find the errors by hand, then retype the “corrected version.”
Once you are completed, leave your “corrected version” on your screen.

Read the text aloud (or “aloud in the head”) slowly, pausing to make corrections when anything sounds “not right.”
Listen as another person reads aloud, stopping him or her in order to jot corrections, as needed.
Read each sentence backward, looking at each word in isolation to catch spelling errors.
Scan for question words (who, what, where, when, why and how) that begin sentences, then check the end punctuation.
