How do babies turn into kids? Piglets into pigs?
The regular sequence of growth and division that cells undergo is known as the cell cycle. A cell grows and divides into 2 new cells, called daughter cells. The daughter cells will begin the cell cycle again and eventually divide. The cell cycle is divides into three main stages: interphase, mitosis, and cytokinesis.

Stage 1: Interphase Interphase is the time period before cell division. During interphase, the cell grows, makes a copy of its DNA, and prepares to divide.

Stage 2: Mitosis Mitosis is the stage during which the cells nucleus divides into two new nuclei. One copy of the DNA is distributed to each of the two daughter cells. Mitosis is divided into four phases: prophase, metaphase, anaphase, and telophase.

Stage 3: Cytokinesis During cytokinesis, the cytoplasm divides. The organelles are distributed into each of the two new cells. When cytokinesis is complete, two new daughter cells have formed. At the end of cytokinesis, each cell will then enter interphase, and the cycle starts over.
