INTRODUCTION FBA is one common ENT emergencies encountered at the ENT Unit, TTH. Usually associated with significant morbidity and mortality Requires a high index of suspicion for diagnosis and prompt management

Peak incidence of occurrence is 0-3 years Male to female ; 2:1 Common foreign bodies; peanuts (groundnuts), seeds, plastic objects and metallic objects In children FBs lodge with equal frequency in the RMB or LMB, with no clear explanation for this occurrence

TTH is the third largest Teaching hospital, serves the three Northern regions
ENT Unit received referrals; Peripheral/District hospitals Accident and Emergency Unit Paediatric Emergency Unit Prior to 2007 cases of FBA were referred to KBTH for management

In Accra , (Prof Kitcher 2009), reported 40 cases in his study Peak incidence 0-4years Common FB ; fishbone (6), seeds, groundnuts , plastic and metallic objects (5 each) 27 lodged in RMB, 10 LMB , 3 in the Larynx One patient had bronchotomy due to failed bronchoscopy

In Kumasi (Awuah et al 2012), reported 21 cases in their study Fishbone and scales ( 9), vegetable seeds (6) and button (5) were most common FBs 15 lodged in the larynx and remaining 6 in tracheobronchial tree

AIM OF STUDY To assess the pattern of paediatric foreign body aspiration at the ENT Unit, Tamale Teaching Hospital, Tamale, Ghana.

MATERIALS AND METHODS Retrospective study of paediatric cases of FBA Jan 2010 to June 2016 ENT Unit, TTH Data retrieved from Theatre record book and theatre e-database

Age, sex, indication for bronchoscopy, nature of foreign body, location of foreign body and outcomes were evaluated 31 cases of FBA were retrieved but 8 excluded due to incomplete operation records. 23 of the cases were included in the final analysis

Data extracted unto MS excel 2010 sheet Exported to SPSS version 20 for descriptive analysis Ethical approval is being sort from IRB

CONCLUSION Foreign body aspiration were more common in the female patients with a peak age occurrence in the zero to three year age group. Groundnuts were the most commonly aspirated foreign bodies with majority localized to the right main bronchus and the trachea
