2 UBOS Mandate Although the UBOS Act No 12 of June 1998 tasked the Bureau with: developing and maintaining a National Statistical System (NSS) so as to ensure collection, analysis and publication of integrated, relevant, reliable and timely statistical information; see slide (3) 5/2/2018 Uganda Bureau of Statistics <> Plot 9 Colville Street , Kampala, Uganda<> Website:

3 Review slide 2 The UBOS Act in its current form does not appropriately empower UBOS to perform its supervisory role largely due to the following reasons: Other players in the NSS have regulations from which they derive their mandate. The UBOS Act does not state in explicit terms which Act prevails over the other with respect to statistical production; The Act is also essentially a UBOS Act and not for the entire NSS.

4 The UBOS Strategy UBOS initially functioned under the Corporate Plan ( ) Mid way the implementation of the CP, there was need to develop a wider scope of statistical development from key stakeholders This coincided with the Marrakech Action Plan recommendations of developing National Strategies for the Development of Statistics (2004) 5/2/2018 Uganda Bureau of Statistics <> Plot 9 Colville Street , Kampala, Uganda<> Website:
