CBS LEAD CENTRES FOR GCOS COORDINATION MEETING
CAMBRIDGE, UK SETEMBER 2016 PERFORMANCE OF THE GCOS STATIONS UNDER MOZAMBIQUE CBS LEAD CENTER CONCERNING THE CLIMAT FLUX José Alberto Sequeira (Mozambican) 07 September 2016
2
INTRODUCTION One of the sources of data information for the International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) is Global Climate Observing System (GCOS) established in by WMO, IOC, UNEP and ICSU, which came to meet the increasing of the demand for historical data in all over the World. WMO designated CBS Lead Center for GCOS to monitory the performance of GCOS Network in particular of the GCOS Stations and to support any follow-up action in designated areas of responsibility (for all WMO Regional Associations).
3
OBJECTIVE Present the Performance GCOS stations concerning the CLIMAT flux
4
COUNTRIES IN AREA OF MOZAMBIQUE RESPONSIBILITY
Angola, Botswana , Burundi, Canary Island, Comoros Island, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, the Ocean Islands, Rwanda, Seychelles, Somalia, South Africa, Swaziland, Uganda, United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe.

METHODOLOGY report in the following Web Site ( where: CA - number of months for which a CLIMAT report was received in the last 12 months; CC - number of months for which a correct CLIMAT report was received in the last 12 months; CT - number of valid or non-suspect monthly mean temperature values available in the last 12 months; CR - number of valid or non-suspect monthly precipitation totals available in the last 12 months; Ind. – Index is (CA+CC+CT+CR)/400
6
PERFORMANCE OF GSN STATIONS IN 2015
It is also observed that most of the invalid data in the CLIMATs Codes which are received observed in precipitation, according to DWD and JMA monitoring. We know that, in CLIMAT code, the total of the precipitation or the resulting value of the sum shall be rounded to the nearest mm, but we see that some stations write all number with the decimal part only six countries had achieved an index equal or greater than 85% in 2015 4 countries with 50%<=Ind>85% 6 countries with 0% <=Ind> 50% 3 countries with Ind= 0%
7
PERFORMANCE OF GSN STATIONS FOR THREE YEARS (2013, 2014, and 2015)
Easily we can see from Figures 2 and 3, that although the efforts of observing systems existing in WMO and another organizations to strengthen collecting data, countries of the RA1 trends to reduce their volume and quality of data received in collecting center.
8
PERFORMANCE OF GSN STATIONS FOR THREE YEARS cont…
This figure also shows that in the last three years the index trend to decrease, although in the last year ( ) the decline is less accentuated
9
CONCLUSION Even with efforts coming from WMO and other organizations to increase the volume of available data, we see that in some countries from RA1 the volume of data received in collecting data center is decreasing according to DWD monitoring center. The list of GCOS National focal points is needed to be updated. We continue having some national focal points which don’t give any answer in our s.
