Understand the context Interpret Scripture with Scripture Be doers of the Word and not just hearers

4 Matthew 7:1–5 (ESV) “Judge not, that you be not judged
Matthew 7:1–5 (ESV) “Judge not, that you be not judged. 2 For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you. 3 Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? 4 Or how can you say to your brother, ‘let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when there is the log in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye.”

5 1. Never judge SUPERFICIALLY
John 7:24 (ESV) “Do not judge by appearances, but judge with right judgment.”

6 2. Never judge HYPOCRITICALLY
Romans 2:1 (NLT) “You may think you can condemn such people, but you are just as bad, and you have no excuse! When you say they are wicked and should be punished, you are condemning yourself, for you who judge others do these very same things.”

7 2. Never judge HYPOCRITICALLY
Romans 2:4 (NLT) “Don’t you see how wonderfully kind, tolerant, and patient God is with you? Does this mean nothing to you? Can’t you see that his kindness is intended to turn you from your sin?”

8 3. Never hold non-Christians to CHRISTIAN STANDARDS
1 Corinthians 5:12–13 (ESV) “For what have I to do with judging outsiders? Is it not those inside the church whom you are to judge? 13 God judges those outside.”

9 4. Always help RESTORE fallen Believers
Galatians 6:1–2 (ESV) “Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted. 2 Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.”
