LEVELS, COURSES, AND TOKENS

COMPETENCIES FOR LEVEL 1
Competency Comp # Relevancy Write, read, and evaluate expressions in which letters stand for numbers. 1 Use variables to represent numbers and write expressions when solving a non contextual problem 2 Identify parts of an expression, such as terms, factors, coefficients, exponents, and base. 4 Construct a linear equation in one variable to model a verbal description of a contextual situation. 7 Simplify/evaluate numerical expressions using order of operations. 19

COMPETENCY COMP # RELEVANCY Understand that expressions that simplify to zero in the denominator are undefined. 20 1 Understand that expressions that simplify to zero in the numerator with a non-zero denominator have a value of zero. 21 Simplify/evaluate algebraic expressions using basic operations and order of operations. 22 Solve contextual problems by evaluating given formulas for specific variables, with attention to proper units. 57 2 Solve non-contextual problems involving simple proportions. 76

COMPETENCY COMP # RELEVANCY Recognize opposite signs of number as indicating locations on opposite sides of 0. 80 3 Find and position integers and other rational numbers on a vertical or horizontal number line diagram. 81 Explain equivalence of fractions in special cases, and compare fractions. 104 Compare two fractions. 105 Use decimal notation for fractions with denominators 10, 100, or 1,000. 106 Add & subtract fractions with unlike denominators. 107

COMPETENCY COMP # RELEVENCY Solve simple non-contextual problems involving whole numbers, fractions, decimals & percents. 108 3 Determine whether a given whole number is prime or composite. 109 1 Determine the GCF & the LCM of whole numbers. 110 Apply & extend previous understandings to use arithmetic of fractions. 111 Solve non-contextual problems involving the 4 operations with rational numbers. 112

COMPETENCY COMP # RELEVANCY Find a percent of a quantity as a rate/100 113 2 Solve problems involving finding the whole, given a part & the percent and problems involving finding the part, given a percent and the whole. 114 Estimate to solve contextual problems. 115 Solve non-contextual problems involving the 4 operations with rational numbers. 116 3

Totals n = 25 3(10) 40% 2(6) 24% 1(9) 36%
