St. DOMINiC SAVIO

Dominic Savio was the eldest of 10 chilren and was born on 2nd April 1842 at Chieri in Turin.

Though they were poor, he was always neat and polite…….
When he was 2 years old the family moved to Morialdo, close to Becchi, the birth place of Don Bosco

From his earliest days, Dominic understood that the best quality of a youngster is purity. That is why he repeatedly prayed. “ Let me die before i ever commit a sin against purity.

He was a very good, obedient and loving boy
He was a very good, obedient and loving boy. He never gave any trouble to his parents. He did not join bad companions, and as a good student, he always stood first in class.

He was faithful to his daily prayers and loved Jesus and Mary and did his best to please them.

Dominic entered the oratory of Don Bosco on 29th October Don Bosco told him, “ You have some good stuff in you” and Dominic asked, “ For what?” Don Bosco replied, “ To make a beautiful garment for the Lord”. And Dominic said “ Then I am the cloth and you are the tailor, make of me a beautiful garment for the Lord”.

In the oratory, Dominic Savio was an element of peace
In the oratory, Dominic Savio was an element of peace. He would stop his companions from fighting and using bad language and would always help anyone who was in need.

Dominic Savio had a great love for Mother Mary and also began a group called the Sodality of the Immaculate Conception. The members had to follow certain rules that helped them to be better children.

Dominic Savio would make many sacrifices inorder to please God, but Don Bosco told him….

"The way to be a saint, Dominic, is to be always cheerful, to do your duties to the best of your ability, and give your classmates good example. Keep in mind that the Lord Jesus is always with you and wants your happiness."

When Dominic was 14 years old, he began to show signs of a strange illness that would lead him to an early death. After a lot of suffering, he died on 9th March, 1857

Dominic Savio at school in Turin:
Cared about playing with all the boys in his class. Made those who were sad happy and helped those who fought to make peace Was a friend to all those who were lonely and did not have friends

So what is Holiness? To be cheerful. To do your duty well. To give to others.
