Proteins Proteins help your body heal and play an important role in fighting disease because parts of your immune system are made of proteins. They are made of chemical building blocks called amino acids. Foods such as meat, fish, eggs, dairy products, and soybeans provide all the amino acids your body needs. A person who follows a vegetarian diet may need to combine certain plant foods, such as beans and rice to gain all the needed amino acids. About 45 to 65 percent of your daily energy needs some come from carbohydrates. They are sugars and starches that occur naturally in foods, mainly plants. It is a waxy chemical that our bodies produce and needs in small amounts LDL (low-density lipoprotein) HDL (high-density lipoprotein) Collects on the walls of arteries and forms plaque Removes LDL from the arteries Plaque is a thick, hard substance. If too much plaque builds up it can block the arteries and cause heart attacks and strokes. Known as “bad cholesterol” Known as “good cholesterol” Eating too much saturated fat can increase the body’s level of cholesterol. Lesson Home

Dehydration is a lack of water in the body. Teen girls should drink about nine cups of water per day and teen boys should drink about 13 cups of water each day.
