Starting Word Clicking the Start button displays the Start menu shown below. Title Bar Displays the file name of the document

File Tab Gives the user access to Word Options and allows you to create new documents, save and print When viewing the File Tab, you are in Backstage View

Ribbon Allows the user to perform certain commands
Control center for Word 2013 Example: the Home tab houses the font group, which houses commands such as bold and italics

Tabs Allows access to groups of commands on ribbons
Examples: Home, Insert, Page Layout

Quick Access Toolbar Provides access to commonly used tasks like saving a document Includes Save, Undo, Redo Commands It can be customized

Quick Access Toolbar Terms
Save – Use when saving a document for the first time or saving changes to an existing document Save As – used to save the file with a different name or different format Undo – used to undo the changes you made to your document Redo – used to repeat the changes you made after pressing the Undo command

Insertion Point Place on the screen in which date is ready to be inserted Blinking cursor

Ruler Is located at the top and left side of the screen.
It allows for use of tab stops and indents.

Scroll Bars Allow for the navigation of a document.
Navigation buttons at the bottom of the scroll bar allow the user to go the next or previous page.

View Buttons Appear on the lower right side of the window
Allow the user to determine the way that the document is viewed

Mini Toolbar automatically appears based on tasks you perform, and contains commands related to changing the appearance of text in a document Automatically appears when text is selected on the screen

Shortcut Menu Menu that appears when you right click in the document

KeyTips/Access Keys Appear after pressing the Alt key
Allow user to choose commands using the keyboard Badges: Labels that display the letter of the KeyTip
