Steps for creating an outline/draft
Pick a topic. Take notes on the topic and include the correct bibliographical information. Label each note card with the subject of that note card [summarize it in a few words]. Open your note cards document Open the hybrid outline/draft template on my HW page. Open the audio file of this lesson to play along, if you like.

Let’s look at the template: [go to TEMPLATE] The intro section is first. The information you include here will be the 1st paragraph of your research paper. You will need a grabber, main points, and a thesis. How do you create main points: Look at your labeled note cards for topics that repeat. Find the 3 most repeated topics and turn them into sentences Those are your 3 main points

The next section is Body paragraph 1. Copy and paste your MP1 sentence from the main points listed in the intro paragraph next to the corresponding section in this part of the outline Then copy and paste all the details from your notes that you want to include next to the part labeled DETAILS. *****After each detail you copy into the outline template, you need to include the source. Go to the bibliography card at the top of the notes boxes and copy the first thing that’s there: either the AUTHOR’S LAST NAME or “THE TITLE OF THE ARTICLE” If it’s a long title, shorten it with ellipsis: EX: “This is the…” Follow these directions for the next 2 body paragraphs.

Lastly, create the bibliography page, also known as the Works Cited Page. You do this by copying and pasting the entire bibliography card for all the details that you used in the paper. Put them in alphabetical order The first item listed on this page (last name or “title of the article”) must be what you put in parentheses ( ) after your details. They need to match. The thing that makes this more than just an outline is that I am asking you to also include the in-text citations and the works cited page. I do this b/c if these are done incorrectly, your paper will be plagiarized and you will fail the research paper.
