DEAF EDUCATION COMES TO AMERICA
Thomas Hopkins Gallaudet meets Alice Cogswell, a young deaf girl. Alice’s father asks Gallaudet to go to Europe and find the secret to teaching deaf children.

Gallaudet goes to France and meets Laurent Clerc, a deaf teacher.
On August 16, 1816 Gallaudet and Clerc sail back to America. 1817 – They open the first school for the deaf in America – Connecticut Asylum for the Education and Instruction of Deaf and Dumb Persons
