No ventilation –yet full oxygenation: Key point 1
Patients can safely be oxygenated, for a period up to 30 minutes, using THRIVE, provided they have an open airway. BL Gustafsson, Lodenius et al. British Journal of Anaesthesia 2017;118(4): SSAI 2017 Åse Lodenius

No ventilation –yet full oxygenation: Key point 2
The rise in CO2 is lower compared to older studies and therefore the THRIVE concept makes it possible to extend the apneic window. Monitoring of CO2 should be used. CO2 increase Arterial: 0.24 ± 0.04 kPa/min End-tidal: 0.12 ± 0.04 kPa/min pH BL Gustafsson, Lodenius et al. British Journal of Anaesthesia 2017;118(4): SSAI 2017 Åse Lodenius

No ventilation –yet full oxygenation: Key point 3
The study demonstrates feasibility of high flow nasal oxygen as the only means for providing oxygenation and gas exchange during laryngologic surgery. SSAI 2017 Åse Lodenius
