4. Welcome to Nethertown Surgery, Dunfermline.
Nethertown Surgery has seven GP partners and one Associated
Partner (the nurse practitioner).
The surgery covers the Dunfermline area, including Townhill,
Wellwood, Kingseat, Halbeath, Rosyth, Crossford and Cairneyhill.
The team at Nethertown also consists of a Triage and Minor
Illness nurse, two practice Nurses, phlebotomists, District Nurses,
Health Visitors, a Practice Manager and a team of clerical and
admin staff.
Other members of the multidisciplinary team who provide
sessions in the surgery include Clinical Psychologists, a
Midwife, a podiatrist, a dietician and a smoking cessation
Specialist.
Together this forms a primary health care team whose job is not
only to treat illness as it arises but, where possible, to prevent
illness through health education and support.

5. Nursing Philosophy of Care
It is the aim of the community nursing team at Nethertown
surgery to provide high quality patient centred care to all
patients by utilising a holistic approach to care
within the community.
This is to maximise the health potential of not only the individual
patient but also address the wider health and social care needs of
various client groups and carers.
All members of the community nursing team shall endeavour to
work together and alongside all members of the multidisciplinary
team in a respectful, supportive way to ensure the creation and
maintenance of a professional safe working environment.

6. Philosophy of Education
Students will be provided with a safe and effective learning environment .
Named mentors will work in partnership with students and the university to facilitate the achievement of the agreed learning outcomes.
Students shall be encouraged to ask questions. These will be answered to the best of our ability, knowledge and best practice.
Students shall assist their own learning by identifying their own learning needs.
Students shall be treated as individuals and with respect and courtesy.
Reflection upon practice shall be promoted.

including developing core nursing skills and focusing on
providing learning experiences centred on the students particular
requirements.

15. The multidisciplinary Team
During this placement you will have the valuable opportunity to see
how every patients holistic care requirements are supported by
spending quality time with various members of the Multidisciplinary
team at Nethertown.
There will be opportunities to spend time with a GP, midwife,
Podiatrist, smoking cessation specialist and specialist cardiac nurse
alongside many other supporting roles that ensure every aspect of
the patients health needs are provided for.
Spending quality time with these vital services will provide you
with a more in depth, richer understanding of the various roles and
contributions these services make to improving the health outcomes
of every patient seen at Nethertown surgery.
