6 Try-out Clinics Attendance:
Learn/Review at Stations Centennial Fight Song 3 sideline cheers Band dance (Varsity Only) Jumps Practice current tumbling skills (no spots) Get tips about general cheer motions and game day skills Attendance: ‘Open house’ style- come when you can, stay for as long as you need. You must attend at least part of a clinic to be able to try- out. If you are in a spring sport, you need to attend that practice first and attend clinics that work around your in season schedule. * Material will be available online next week of Try-outs.

7 Try-Outs (during clinic)
Tumbling: Anytime during clinics, coaches will ‘judge’ your tumbling (Back handspring or better) Once you are ready to show your tumbling, you will find a coach to judge your skill(s). There will be no spots. Stunting: Varsity only: Wednesday 4/19, open warm up from 5-5:30, coach led try-outs 5:30 – 6:30 pm Judged on: stunting skills, diversity of roles, team work. Cheerleaders will be grouped by coaches during try-outs to see each cheerleader perform her or his best. Stunts: Prep, Extension, Liberty Load in: Regular or ½ up Dismount: Smoosh, cradle, full down Perform at your best, want to see CLEAN stunts, if you have never done a skills before- this is NOT the time to try it. Purpose for this: To have squads that are balanced stunt wise and determine rosters by looking for a more well rounded cheerleader.

8 Try-Outs Try-out Stations: Call Times: Sophomore: 5:00pm
Each candidate will try-out with a group of 2-4 other candidates (in their grade level). Groups will rotate to each try-out station, performing one skill at each station: Fight Song, Cheer, Dance, Jumps. Call Times: Varsity: 4:30pm Sophomore: 5:00pm Freshman: 5:30pm Candidates will wait in the cafeteria until called and are free to go once done. * If you have a scheduling conflict that cannot be changed, please see the coaches at the clinics to discuss time and date options for your try-out.

9 Appearance at Try-outs
All-American look, Iowa Cheer Coaches Association Rules Hair: MUST be fully pulled back (no bangs/whispies) Jewelry: None (band aides covering piercings and spacers are not acceptable) Nails: well maintained, cut short (not visible above fingertip) Shoes: cheer shoes or athletic shoes Clinics: Form fitting T-shirt and shorts Try-outs: form fitting plain black top & black shorts. Hair Bow is optional, but encouraged. Your Appearance (following the guidelines above) is taken into consideration as part of your try-out score.

10 Judging Mandatory Post Try-out cheerleader and parent meeting:
Points: Score sheet: Used by all ACHS coaches and guest judges. Scoring: Cheerleader will get points at each station based on SKILL and PERFORMANCE. A total will be tallied and used for squad selection. Results: The coaches will tabulate all cumulative ballot results. Squad rosters will be posted Saturday Morning, April 22th, by 10:00am on door E40 at ACHS. Mandatory Post Try-out cheerleader and parent meeting: April 24 – ACHS Auditorium– 6pm-8pm If parents are unable to attend, they will need to set up an separate meeting with coach.

11 Forms Necessary for Try-outs
Forms are due the first day you attend the cheer clinics (4/17 or 4/19) in order to practice. YOU WILL NOT be able to practice until ALL documents have been turned in. 15 Teacher Recommendation Forms
As an cheerleader you are a representative of ACHS Living the Jaguar Creed How to have a teacher recommend you: You need to give 3 teachers this form. You write the teachers name, the class, and your current grade on your application form. THE TEACHER will complete the evaluation THE TEACHER will turn it into the coaches prior to try-outs Recommendations are based on: Academic Habits Use of class time Leadership Team work Respectful Give these to your teachers ASAP as they are due 4/19 at noon. You will not be able to try-out unless these are all turned in!!

Recognition & Acceptance Statements Try-Out Statement: Both you and your parent/guardian needs to read the statements prior to signing! Program Book Statement: Signing this document means: you AND your parents read through all details and agree to follow all guidelines stated. Program book can be found on the school wires page.

19 Centennial Competitive Cheerleading
All cheerleaders (Fall and Winter, Freshman – Varsity) will be expected to attend the state competition to cheer on their teammates: November 4th at the State Fair Grounds.

20 Centennial Competitive Cheerleading
All Cheerleaders have the opportunity to be on Centennial State Stunt Squad. Coaches will determine cheerleader placement on state stunt through personal interest, summer practice, and a try-out (if needed).

21 Centennial Competitive Cheerleading
Freshman Fall Cheerleaders will be representing ACHS at the State competition in the “Time Out Cheer” division. Only 16 members will perform, all others will be alternates. Coaches will determine which cheerleaders perform or are alternates. Performances: Homecoming Pep Assembly at Northview Showcase for friends and family during the week leading up to State. Competitions (All Day Events): Pre- state competition on 10/29 State 11/4

22 Purposed Purchases UCA Cheer Summer Camp
All Cheerleaders: (Freshman –Varsity, Fall and Winter) UCA Home Camp: $160 Camp Deposit: $100 Deposit is required at post try-out meeting and will not be cashed until end of May. Deposit will go towards final payment. If not attending camp, your coach must be notified no later than May 19th or your deposit will not be refunded.

23 Purposed Purchases Grid of grade level costs:
Many items will be the same as last year. Returning cheerleaders have the option to purchase a new version, or keep what you purchased in the past. This will be discussed further at post try-out parent meeting April 24th. Grid of grade level costs: These are the max expenses of required gear of each grade level. Returning cheerleaders: All practice gear is remaining the same (Black logo shirt, white t-shirt, black and gray short, black skort). Purchase only if you need a replacement.

25 Summer Schedule Summer Practice Content covered at summer practice: stunting, jumps, cheers/sidelines/fight song. Expected to be at each summer practice. PLAN AHEAD OF TIME! Practice (at ACHS): Tuesday 6/27 - 9:00am – 12:00pm Thursday 6/29 - 9:00am – 12:00pm Friday 7/7 - 9:30am – 11:30am Monday 7/10 – 5:00pm – 7:30pm “NO TOUCH” period from July 23 - August 6.

26 Summer Schedule Summerfest Practice & Parade UCA Camp
Practice: Friday July 7th 7:00am – 9:00am at ACHS. Parade: Saturday July 8th. Roughly 8:00-11:00am. Northview Parking lot. UCA Camp Home Camp at ACHS Expected to attend and represent Centennial Cheerleading July 17 & 18th 8:00am – 9:00 pm

27 Fall Cheer- Projected Schedule
Fall Training Camp: Mandatory for all Fall Freshman, Sophomore, and Varsity Cheerleaders At ACHS: Friday 8/11: 9:00am – 5:00pm Tuesday 8/15: 9:00am - 5:00pm Thursday 8/17: 8:00am – 12:00pm School Practice: Practice will begin August 21nd at be held at ACHS in the commons/cafeteria for all levels Games: Reference the CIML online for a more accurate schedule Freshman and Sophomores: Thursday Varsity: Friday

28 Winter Cheer- Projected Schedule
Pre-Season Practice: Winter Training Camp: Mandatory for all Winter Freshman, Sophomore, and Varsity Cheerleaders Saturday November 11th 9:00am-4:00pm at TBD Practice will begin November 13th at be held at ACHS in the commons/cafeteria for all levels. First week of winter cheerleading will have practice Monday through Thursday 4-6 at ACHS. There will be practice Monday November 20st and then no practice the rest of the week due to the Thanksgiving holiday. Regular Season Practice: Starts November 27th

29 Winter Cheer-Projected Schedule
Games/Meets: Reference the CIML online for a more accurate schedule Basketball: All Levels: Tuesday and Fridays (occasional Saturday) All Varsity BBall, Sophomore, and Freshman will cheer Basketball Games Varsity: All home and away games Sophomore and Freshman: All home games Wrestling: JV and Varsity: Tuesday and/or Thursdays Meets, Saturday Tournaments (all day) All Varsity Wrestling, Sophomore, and Freshman will cheer Wrestling Meets Varsity: All home and away meets Sophomore: All home JV meets and occasional away meets Freshman: 1-2 away JV tournaments
