2 The French Social Security Policy
State organisation designed to reimburse health-related expenses. Student Social Security scheme managed to meet students’ special needs Foreign students, above the age of 16, have to join the Social Security Scheme (except under special circumstances)

3 Personal Diagnosis of Social Security Status
3 main characteristics will determine your status regarding Social Security : Age (over 16 and under 28) Country of Origin Duration of your stay (only more than 3 months)

4 Personal Diagnosis: your age
Under 28 You have to suscribe to French Student Social Security Over 28 You cannot benefit from a Student Social Security scheme and need to refer to the CPAM (French Primary Health Insurance Fund)

5 Personal Diagnosis: your country of origin
From Overseas (outside EU) Have to suscribe to Student Social Security Contribution of 211€/year (except grant holder from French Government) From the European Union You need your European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) not to join the Student Social Security, which will be used for reimbursement From Quebec Because of a reciprocal agreement between the French Social Security and the Quebec Health Insurance Board (RAMQ), you are not required to join

6 The LMDE, your partner for your health coverage
The LMDE is the only national student social security centre with offices distributed all across France, close to where you are studying The LMDE is a Student Social Security Centre led by students, working for students. Through your personal space on the internet you will be able to follow your reimbursement and social security situation 1 students out of 2 and more than members trusting the LMDE Members may benefit from the third party payer system thanks to which you do not lend money for your healthcare (e.g. hospitalisation)

7 How to join Student Social Security?
On the Internet or on Paper: while you fulfill your enrolment, check « LMDE – Cente 601 » or La Mutuelle des Etudiants When suscribing, you have to pay for the Social Security Scheme, at the same time as your tuition fees, which will then be paid to URSSAF, collecting all payment for social security. Reminder : 211€ for the year 2013/2014. Your data will then automatically be transfered to the LMDE for registration and your social security rights will begin on 1st October 2013, lasting till 30th September 2014.

8 Your Social Security Number and Health Insurance Card
You will need a social security number by providing : Copy of a long-stay visa Copy of your passport Copy of your birth certificate Translation of your birth certificate Once you are registered, you will be given a health insurance card that you will have to present for any healthcare matters.

9 How to be reimbursed? Once you have registered and received your social security card, you will get reimbursed by providing us with Your bank account details (reimbursements are made through transfers) A declaration of an attending practitioner to the the LMDE, your social security center, to whom you will first refer for any healthcare issues

10 Exceptions Holders of an EHIC and Quebec Nationals
You need to contact the CPAM to check eligibility for reimbursements, costs based on french social security reimbursement scheme. Over 28 or short-stay students (less than 3 months) Check with us if you are staying less than 3 months for a Foreign Student Insurance Coverage

11 A better reimbursement : optimize your coverage
Since the Social Security only reimburses a certain amount of healthcare expenses, complementary health insurances exist to cover for the rest of the costs. A complementary health insurance covers totally or partially the difference between the medical cost and the French Social Security.

Student Life and Private Life Civil liability, that covers any damade made to a third party (e.g. breaking a computer in a party / during your internship) Cost : 6€/month.

14 Soins Courants LMDE This daily healthcare top-up health insurance policy will cover: Hospitalisation Medical fees from your General Practitioner and any referred physicians (specialists) More medicines from the Pharmacy Laboratory analyses prescribed by your GP Healthcare expenses resulting from an accident Preventive care packages (immunization, contraceptions). You will benefit from : Solidarity benefits : a Mutual insurance solidarity allowance Student Life and Private Life Civil liability, Cost : 9,17€/month.

15 Tous Soins LMDE This top-up health insurance concerning all areas of healthcare policy will cover : Hospitalisation Medical fees from your General Practitioner and any referred physicians (specialists) More medicines from the Pharmacy Laboratory analyses prescribed by your GP Healthcare expenses resulting from an accident Medical imaging and Ambulatory Surgery Dental Treatment Glasses and Contact lenses (up to 50€ a year) Preventive care packages (immunization, contraceptions, smoking cessation package, road safety package). Healthcare costs abroad during interships. You will benefit from : Solidarity benefits : a Mutual insurance solidarity allowance or accident. Student Life and Private Life Civil liability, Cost : 18,75€/month.
