3 Network Topologies Networking Topologies: defines the physical connections of hosts in a computer network. There are several types of physical topologies including: • Bus • Ring • Star • Mesh

5 Bus (line) Network Bus (line) Network: which all devices are attached to a line. Advantage of bus (line) Network topology: Simple, cheap and easy to install. Easy to add any device to the network. If a device is not working, it does not effect on other network devices. Disadvantages of bus (line) Network topology: Slow in data transmission. Terminators are required. If make any modification to network (add or remove device) must stop the whole network If a main cable is damaged, the network fails or splits into two.

6 Ring Network Advantages of ring topology: All data flows in one direction. Data transfer is fast. Ease of installation and low cost. Ring Network: Devices are connected to each other in a circular shape.. Disadvantages of ring topology : If one workstation shuts down the whole network will fail. difficult to make any modification to .

7 Star Network Star Network: Each computer is individually wired to a central connecting device (hub or switch or router) Advantages of star topology : Centralized management. Data more secure and fast. Easy to add another computer to the network. If one computer on the network fails, whole network will not be affected. Disadvantages of star topology: If the central computer, hub, or switch fails, the entire network fails or stop working.

8 Mesh Network Mesh Network topology: A network setup where each computer and network device is interconnected with one another. Advantages of mesh topology: commonly used for wireless networks Disadvantages of mesh topology: Very expansive very difficult to setup and administrate

Peer to Peer Advantages of Peer to Peer network: Ease of installation and low cost. Can be used for small networks It uses for simple tasks such as file and printer sharing. Peer to Peer: means that each computer is treated as an equal in privileges . Disadvantages of Peer to Peer network: Difficult to control the network. The lack of a central safety. Limited expansion. 12 Files and printers Sharing
At this stage, we will discuss how you can share printers, files in the P2P network (Peer to Peer) and using the Windows operating system. There are several elements to consider before you began the process of participation. 1-The computer must be a member of one of the working groups (Workgroup) and has privileges to share files and devices. 2 - the printer want to be share is connected to a computer. 3 - Use Sharing Wizard is active before participation processor.

13 Server / Client Advantages of Client / Server:
Protect data from loss or damage. Increase number of customers. Data confidentiality is assured. Easy to manage network resources. Server/ Client: is an architecture that distributes applications between servers and client computers Server: System that provides services such as Windows Server Client: Device that requests services such as Windows 10 Disadvantages of Client / Server: If a server stops working the entire network stop. Installation is difficult and expensive.

14 Some examples of uses for servers
File server: A file server stores files for computers to share. Print server: A print server controls printers that can be connected directly to the server or (and more commonly) are connected to the network. The print server can control the starting and stopping of document printing, as well as concepts such as spooling, printer pooling, ports, and much more. Database server: A database server houses a relational database made up of one or more files. SQL databases fall into this category Messaging server: This category is enormous. Messaging servers include not just servers, but also fax, instant messaging, collaborative, and other types of messaging servers. Web server: Web servers are important to share data and provide information about a company.
