BP’s Aims BP aim not only to comply with legal requirements but to drive down the environmental and health impact of our operations by reducing waste and emissions and using natural resources responsibly. They also look ahead to decommissioning and remediation in the earliest stages of design, following prevention principles to minimise their long-term impact. BP plans to lower the amount of carbon dioxide being pumped into the atmosphere by using alternative sources of energy.
9
Co2 emissions The world needs power. By 2030 the worlds electricity consumption is predicted to almost double – this is good news because it means economies are growing. However, growth in energy demand creates challenges – today over 41% of carbon dioxide emissions come from generating electricity using fossil fuels. And the power sector will continue to be the largest contributor of carbon dioxide emissions. BP believe they can help make a significant reduction in carbon dioxide emissions in the power sector. BP alternative energy has the potential to avoid or eliminate 24 million tonnes of carbon dioxide a year by 2015.
