3 Characteristics of Successful AP Science Students
High grades in previous science courses Recommended for AP by science teacher Strong work ethic Motivated Independent learner Able to devote at least one hour each night to studying Able to apply content, not just memorize

4 AP Sciences by Grade Level
9th Grade – NONE 10th Grade – AP Biology or AP Environmental Science by teacher recommendation only; must be paired with Honors Chemistry 11th and 12th Grades – any AP science course as long as prerequisites are met

5 AP Biology Prerequisites – Honors Biology, Chemistry (preferably Honors) Exam consists of 63 multiple choice, 6 numeric grid-in, and 8 response questions Course requires 25% laboratory experiences, including 8-12 in-depth, inquiry-based labs

6 AP Chemistry Prerequisite – Honors Chemistry
Online chemistry classes generally do NOT prepare students for the AP course! Exam consists of 60 multiple choice and 7 free response questions (3 requiring calculations) 16 guided-inquiry labs are included in the course

7 AP Environmental Science
Prerequisites – Honors Biology, Chemistry (preferably Honors) Exam consists of 100 multiple choice and 4 free response questions Includes inquiry-based labs that require critical thinking This is NOT an “easy” science AP course!

8 AP Physics 1 Prerequisites – Strong math skills (Algebra 2 or higher), Honors Chemistry or Physics Similar to a 1st semester, algebra-based college physics course Exam consists of 60 multiple choice questions and 5 free response problems Requires more than 40 hours of lab work

9 AP Physics C - Mechanics
Prerequisites – Calculus and previous Physics course (preferably AP Physics 1) Similar to a 1st semester, calculus-based college physics course Exam consists of 35 multiple choice and 3 free response problems Requires more than 40 hours of lab work
