Aims: To learn the technical features of a TV advert that you need to include Begin developing a plan/plot for your TV advert

Key things to know about and use:
A range of camera shots Editing Diegetic and Non-Diegetic sound Mise en Scene Your TV Advert should be 25 – 30 seconds long and needs a broad range of these features to gain good marks

Camera Shots

Editing Techniques Aims:
To look at a range of editing techniques, their definition and effect. To analyse a film trailer, and discuss the editing and camera techniques used.

Editing This refers to how one shot ‘cuts’ into another shot. There are a huge number of ways you can use editing to connect shots together, and each has a different effect. eg, Parallel Editing in a Rihanna video: Rapid Editing in Casino Royale:

Sound and Mise-en Scene
Aims: To learn how sound and mise-en-scene are used in film/advertising To analyse some examples

Sound DIEGETIC We can see the source of the music/sound on the screen.
Conversations, radio, a CD, or the crash of waves etc. The actors can hear these sounds. NON-DIEGETIC There is no source of the sound on screen. It is added by the director after filming Eg. Soundtrack, stings (musical explanation marks!) or a voice over.

Mise en Scene This is a French term meaning ‘put into the frame.’ the Mise en Scene is literally everything you see in a scene. This includes: How the actors perform The setting Costume and make up Colour Lighting effects

Laptop = career distraction?
Soft, warm colours Subtle lighting Characters are close Laptop = career distraction? A Happy Marriage? Mise en scene signifies a warm, close relationship although the presence of the laptop implies the husband’s career may be a threat to the marriage

Cold, harsh colours Isolated character / body language Stronger lighting - more shadows Threat from behind? Alone in the Dark - Mise en scene signifies fear and anxiety
