The program has many opportunities for the teacher to make the lessons INSTRUCTIONALLY DIFFERENT so that all students can work and be challenged at levels appropriate for them. A website to help your child at home:

Maximize ALL Students’ Mathematical Learning Through the Use of Powerful Instructional Strategies & Techniques A Professional Development group that I was a part of last year A focus on long range retention and fluency with basic facts What can parents do to help their child? Flash Card practice for Basic Facts If your child knows their basic facts by memory, then their brain can work on solving word problems rather than figuring out basic facts.
10
W.I.N. What I Need 2:30 – 3:00 Opportunity to meet specific student needs Time for students to ask questions Self-Selected Reading or Free Writing
11
School Supplies The use of a Homework Assignment book is mandatory, along with a yellow folder. The yellow folder should be brought home each night and returned to school each morning. This is the means of communication between home and school. The HSA graciously provided the assignment books. Thank you for providing us with tissues and wipes!
12
Absence Policy One of the most beneficial ways to succeed in school is to be present for class. If your child is absent for any reason, please make arrangements for getting the assigned work. A 3:15 pm HW pickup is available. Please call the office or us as early as possible. Our policy regarding vacations is that missed work will be completed when your child returns to school. There may be some exceptions. Please check with your child’s teachers. Excuse cards are required upon your child’s return to school.
13
Homework Policy Homework is a necessary tool for reinforcement of the day’s instruction. Reading homework will encompass a variety of daily reading requirements, as well as strategy & skill application. Social Studies and Science homework may include review of material taught in class, in addition to curriculum related projects. Math homework will be assigned most nights. Unless otherwise noted, MATH HW assigned on Thursdays is due on Mondays. A Homework Notice will be issued for any missing or incomplete homework. It requires a parent signature and must be returned the next day with the completed assignment. If extenuating circumstances occur, please contact the appropriate teacher.
