Introduction The Royal Commission on the Superior Civil Services in India , which submitted its Report in 1924, recommended the setting up of the Public Service Commission . This resulted in the establishment of the first Public Service Commission on 1 October

The limited advisory function accorded to the Public Service Commission resulted in the setting up of a Federal Public Service Commission under the Government of India Act, 1935. Federal Public Service Commission became the Union Public Service Commission after Independence and was given a Constitutional status on 26 January 1950.

Exam pattern : Civil Service Preliminary Examination( Objective-type Questions) for the selection of Candidate for Main Examination Civil Service Main Examination (Written & Interview) for the selection of Candidate for various services.

CDS II Combined Defence Service exam is conducted by UPSC twice a year for the recruitment to office cadre of the Army, Navy and Air force generally in the months of May and October. Candidates qualifying the written test are interviewed by the Service Selection Board and if selected, depending upon the choice given by the candidates and their merit list ranking in the examination.

CESE The Combined Engineering Services Examination is conducted by the UPSC every year for recruitment of the four categories of Engineering services: Civil Engineering Mechanical Engineering Electrical Engineering and Electronics & telecommunication Engineering.

IAS All India Combined Competitive Examination for the Civil Services conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) comprises of two successive stages: Preliminary Examination: It is an objective type, which is a qualifying examination. Preliminary Examination The preliminary examination consists of two papers: Paper I -- General Studies of 150 marks Paper II -- An Optional subject of 300 marks . Main Examination It Consists of the following papers: Paper I - One Indian language (selected by the candidate) 300 marks Paper II - English of 300 marks Paper III - Essay of 200 marks Paper IV&V - General Studies of 300 marks each Paper VI-IX - Any two subjects (optional papers to be selected by the candidate) with two papers each of 300 marks . IFS The Indian Forest Service Exam(IFS) is held every year for recruiting officers for the Indian Forest Service . The members are recruited by the Centre but their services are put under the various State cadres, they get the privilege of serving both under the State and under the Centre.

GE A Competitive Examination is conducted by UPSC Named Geologists Examination for Recruitment to the various positions in the Government sector. The examination is held for two categories namely:- Category I - Posts in Geological Survey of India. Category II - Posts in Central Ground Water Board.

CSAT The Civil Services Examination is conducted by the UPSC for different civil services in the Government . Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT) is called as the Preliminary Written Examination in Civil Service Examination. This Examination is the first stage from the three stage Examination . The Qualified student get short listed in this stage for the next stage i.e., Main Written Examination.
