1 They Gave Me An iPad, Now What?
Facing the Fears of Change and Embracing Authentic, Relevant, Meaningful Apps in the English Language Arts Classroom and Beyond… Jennifer Linkous Spartanburg Writing Project Summer 2012

2 Instructional Roadblock
As a Literacy Coach, I am often a second set of eyes in classrooms during guided reading and writer’s workshop. While teachers are hard at work with small groups or conferring with individual students, I see the other students in workstations using iPads. Intrigued, and an iPad fanatic, I walk over to find Kindergarteners flying multiplication rocket ships or coloring pictures. Nowhere do I see students working on relevant activities. These wondrous (and expensive) machines are being “wasted.” Teachers are not purposefully neglecting iPads, but these are new tools, and many teachers have never seen or used them themselves.
