4 Using Article ‘A’ We use the article ‘a’ before consonant sounds.

7 Plural Things Most singular nouns need an addition of ‘s’ to make them into the plural. Examples: one teacher => two teachers one student => two students one bottle => two bottles

8 ALERT!! Plural Things For a noun ending with a consonant + y, change y into i + es. Example: one lady => two ladies For a noun ending with ch, x, sh, ss or s, add es. Example: a match=> two matches a box => two boxes a brush => two brushes a glass => two glasses a bus => two busses For a noun ending with the vowel o, add es. Example: a potato => two potatoes a tomato => two tomatoes

9 But WAIT!!! Plural Things Some nouns are unique. The have irregular plural forms. Example: a man => two men a woman => two women a child => two children a person => two people

10 Countable and Uncountable Nouns
Biscuit, cup and apple are examples of countable nouns. So we can count them: one biscuit, two biscuits. Countable nouns can be singular or plural. clipart two pencils Milk, tea and bread are examples of uncountable nouns because we cannot count them. We cannot say: a milk, two milks, two breads. Uncountable nouns are always singular. clipart two milks

11 So, how do we say the plural form of uncountable nouns?
Plural Things We can count such an uncountable noun with the following measurement. The number of litres/kilos two kilos of potatoes one litre of water 2. The containers a bottle of water three jars of jam 3. Other measurement words two slices of bread a piece of chocolate a loaf of bread a bar of chocolate three glasses of water
