Helps guide design, implementation, assessment and evaluation of interprofessional education. The term competency-based education, as defined by CompetencyWorks, refers to a systems model in which (1) teaching and learning are designed to ensure students are becoming proficient by advancing on demonstrated mastery and (2) schools are organized to provide timely and differentiated support to ensure equity. A competency-based structure enables personalized learning to provide flexibility and supports to ensure mastery of the highest standards possible. With clear and calibrated understanding of proficiency, learning can be tailored to each student’s strengths, needs, and interests and enable student voice and choice in what, how, when, and where they learn.

What is taught is not the same as what is learned.
What is Learning ? Slide 1.7 Aim of the next few slides is to provide an overview of adult learning and its application to practice. What is both taught and learned - Maybe everything is learned by someone but each of you will not learn the same thing and take away your own individual learning What is learned but not taught – you will also learn from each other, through reflection and also from other sources e.g. colleagues, books, articles, experiential learning and virtual learning environment. What is taught and not learned is a wasted effort – important to ensure what is taught through presentations is relevant to the audience. We are all different and we all learn differently and learn different things.
