1 Learning Map for Yellow Class: Spring 2 Sparks Sparks
Time lines The chn will learn what a timeline is. They will create a simple timeline based on their day. They will later create a timeline to explain the events of the start of the fire in 1666. We will explore this through video, role play and reading. We will be looking closely at rhyming books such as those written by Julia Donaldson. The children will have a chance to write their very own poems! We will also learn about simile and alliteration this half term. Later in the half term we will be reading and exploring stories from other cultures. There is a great website called The Literacy Shed which will help us. Rehearse for class assembly with Year 2. Pudding Lane We will be baking cakes, buns and pies (creating them with salt dough). Writing recipes for our own cakes and sweets. We will have sequencing, dressing up and books all about the Great Fire of London. And the chance to become Samuel Pepys, writing in code in his diary! Who’s your day been? Rhyming words We will spend lots of time looking at division and multiplication in the coming weeks. We will read and answer real life problems and see if we can choose the correct operation (+, -, x or ÷). Then children will learn how to measure accurately using cm and mm. Number work Role play/ assembly Sparks The Great Fire of London Light and Dark Maybe its because I’m a Londoner People who help us London’s Burning Burning down the house What do you already know about London? Chn to identify London on a map. Look at London skyline in day and at night. Look at view from space/ plane. What can you see? Where does the light come from? Chn to create a crayon/ paint picture to show light sources found in London. Ask the children to identify/ research key landmarks in London. Use pictures, websites and leaflets to find key facts. Chn to choose 1 location and create their own leaflet that teaches others about this place of interest. Samuel Pepys PSHCE Spend time discussing personal safety. Link to light and dark and great fire of London. What does a firefighter do? Highlight that there were no fire fighters n 1666.look at how equipment has changed over time. Chn to role play calling 999 for help. Chn to practice the fire drill. Can I order the days of the week? Can I know key facts from history? Can I name significant people from history? Chn to learn why the fire spread so quickly. Look at materials used to build homes, closeness of houses and streets and the weather at the time of the fire. Chn to learn how London was rebuilt. Chn to create documentaries using iPads to explain key facts of buildings then and now. Chn to create pictures of houses using 2D and 3D shapes. Create pictures in DT with moving flames. Chn to discuss where they would prefer to live. Chn to create a model of this place using a stained glass effect picture (link to light and dark). Chn to have key true and false facts about Samuel Pepys to sort. Review as a class and discuss the things which are surprising. Chn to have a chance to write a diary entry on tea-stained paper. The children will explore light and dark those a range of activities and investigation. They will learn about florescent and reflective materials.
