This is a developmental skill: Young children pick their noses, touch themselves in private places, and pass gas freely in front of others.

Given that it is a developmental skill, it makes sense to :
•Refrain from repetitive scolding if this has not worked. •Not rely on subtle, disapproving looks. •Try patience and teaching.

Try using a scale to teach!
5 = This is shocking to everyone. Do this in your own bedroom with the door closed! (masturbation) 4 = This is upsetting to just about everyone. Do in private. (scratching private parts) 3 = This is upsetting to many people, especially adults. (farting and excessive laughing) 2 = This makes people uncomfortable. (nose picking) 1 = This doesn’t really bother anyone. (humming very quietly) * Pick your battles!
