GOAL Homeowner Preparation for Chipping Day

2 Each spring and fall the chipping day will be advertised through WHOA and the Firewise Committee. A sign up form can be picked up, filled out and returned to the WHOA Office. WHOA WHOA Phone: The Chipping machines will be provided twice a year, for a charge, by your WHOA Firewise Committee. What is a chipping segment and the Letter of Agreement? Participants agree to the following: Brush pile will be placed within 10 feet of driveway/road prior to the designated Chipping day. Branches (6 in. Max diameter) will be stacked parallel for ease of chipping. Before or within 3 days after work is completed the homeowner commits to pay for the provided chipping services. The cost of a chipping segment is $45 for every 15 minutes, or fraction thereof, of the chipper operation. If the owner cannot be present, a member of the Firewise committee will be available to hold the payment and will be at the site when the work is done. All chips will be removed unless the owner request that they be broadcast on his or her property. Please make checks payable to the designated contractor on the Letter of Agreement. If you plan to take advantage of the chipping day opportunity you must return the Letter of Agreement form to the WHOA office 10 days before the Chipping day.

3 Homeowner Preparation for Chipping Day
As you go through the Firewise mitigation process, you can prepare the cleared debris into piles to be ground up in a professional grade chipping machine. Each homeowner prepares piles of branches and debris for chipping, (debris from trimmed trees, bushes that can be placed in a commercial chipping machine) in a location within close proximity to the driveway access of the house. Place branches and other chipping debris within 10 foot of access (driveway or road) prior to announced chipping day. Stack piles of debris in manageable parallel stacks with branches being no larger than 6 inches in diameter. Homeowner might have several stacks along access points for the chipper. The chipper will be driven to the participating homeowner’s property and will chip the materials either on the property or into the truck to be hauled away.

4 must be completed by homeowner prior to the day of service.
Chipping Day Letter of Agreement must be completed by homeowner prior to the day of service. Call any Firewise Committee member to ask about Chipping Day and to get agreement forms.
