CORE KARES Lesson Plan May 3, 2017
Today we will have our students reflect on the current PRIDE point reward system and brainstorm prizes and privileges they would like to see included next year. Here are the steps: (3 min-step one) Pass out the handout to the students and have them follow the steps on the slide one to rank the current prizes being offered (3-love it, 2-like it, 1-don’t like it) (10 min-step two) Read through the instructions explaining how the students will generate ideas of prizes and privileges for next year on the back of the handout. (15 min-steps three and four) Walk the students through the rest of the lesson: each student selecting their top 3 ideas to add to class master list on the board, and then voting on their top ten ideas as a class. If time permits-collect any feedback the students have on the current PRIDE point system as a whole (what is working well? What can be improved) IMPORTANT!!! Each teacher should submit their class’s top ten list to Elisabeth Glyn Anderson and any additional student feedback you may have.

Lesson Purpose: Today you will help Safford evaluate its PRIDE point menu and provide suggestions for how to make it even better for next year! Step One: On your handout, look at the list of prizes from this year. Rank each prize as follows: 3-love it! 2-like it Don’t like it

Step Two: On the back of your handout, you will have 8 minutes to generate a list of prizes and privileges for next year and your recommended cost. New idea!! We might be able to let students buy “privileges” instead of prizes!! (The easiest time to do this would be at lunch.) Keep in mind: If you set prices too low, we run out of prizes quickly. If you set the prices too high, students can’t afford them. 3. Prices should vary, with some items worth more, others less. Examples: -Ping pong matches with a friend at lunch -Computer games with a friend at lunch -Promethean board game time with a friend -Please list other ideas can you think of ….

You now have 8 minutes to generate your own list!
Step Three: Each student names three of their favorite ideas for the teacher to compile on the board onto a class master list of prizes. Step Four: Vote on your top ten! Each student is allowed five tally marks to choose their selections from the master list. Your teacher will submit these top ten for consideration next year.
