7 Archaic: 1st stage Greek sculpture
Appeared around 600 B.C. Popular subjects were stiff, lacked movements, and had stylized features. Kouros (plural Kouroi) young male nudes Kore (plural Korai) young female nudes

8 Classical Period Began around 480 B.C.
One of the world’s most replicated sculptural periods The Discobolus (Discus Thrower) one of the most famous sculptures from this period Body is at the peak of physical fitness, with perfect proportion and idealized features Displays the technique of Contrapposto, which allows the sculpture to appear to move in space. It helps to show the body in motion. Face is calm showing moderation, an ethereal look, (heavenly) grimacing doesn’t show ideal of beauty.

9 Hellenistic period Began around 332 B.C.
Sculpture begins to focus on showing emotion, (especially pain and grief) Sculptures had dramatic positioning, sweeping lines, and high contrast values. Deities and heroic themes were still used, but everyday life subjects were explored as well.
