3 Presentation Goal To provide school systems with all SES/Choice data collection activities required by the Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE). 4 What is SES? Supplemental educational services (SES) include academic assistance such as tutoring and remediation which are provided outside of the regular school day and designed to increase the academic achievement of students in low-performing schools. Title I schools at Needs Improvement Status 2 or higher must implement SES. Brad Bryant, State Superintendent of Schools “We will lead the nation in improving student achievement.”

5 What is Choice? Public School Choice (Choice) provides parents/legal guardians the opportunity to transfer their children to a public school that has not been identified for school improvement, corrective action, or restructuring. Title I Schools at Needs Improvement Status 1 or higher must implement Choice. Brad Bryant, State Superintendent of Schools “We will lead the nation in improving student achievement.”

6 Purpose of Evaluation GaDOE is required by Title I, Part A to “develop, implement, and publicly report on standards and techniques for monitoring the quality and effectiveness of services offered by approved providers under this subsection, and for withdrawing approval from providers that fail, for two (2) consecutive years, to contribute to increasing the academic proficiency of students served”. 7 Purpose of Data Collection
GaDOE collects information from Title I Directors, parents, and students to evaluate SES providers, the SES program, and Choice implementation. Use data for SES provider report cards. Allows GaDOE to make program modifications based on survey data and remove SES providers that have not demonstrated effectiveness in increasing student achievement. What information is requested? List of every school in the district that is required to offer SES and/or Choice. Why is this information requested? Provides GaDOE with information on the schools that should receive the rest of the data collection activities. What information is requested? List of every SES provider that the district has entered into a contract and the number of students assigned to the provider in the contract. Why is this information requested? Provides GaDOE with a list of SES providers to monitor for compliance with SES Standards. What information is requested? Provide parents of SES participating students with a survey. Why is this information requested? Provides GaDOE with information on the parent perspective of SES provider compliance and service delivery, satisfaction with the SES provider, and perceived impact on student achievement. Results in program modifications and/or follow-up with individual providers. How are surveys disseminated? University of Georgia (UGA) s a copy of the parent surveys to Title I Directors. Title I Directors pre-populate the parent name and corresponding provider on the survey. Title I Directors provide copies of the survey directly to parents or through local schools who then provide the survey to parents. What information is requested? Provide middle and high school students participating in SES with a survey. Why is this information requested? Provides GaDOE with information on the student perspective of SES provider compliance and service delivery, satisfaction with the SES provider, and perceived impact on student achievement. Results in program modifications and/or follow-up with individual providers. Data is used in the SES provider report cards. How are surveys disseminated? UGA s a copy of the student surveys to Title I Directors. Title I Directors pre-populate the student name and corresponding provider on the survey. Title I Directors provide copies of the survey directly to students or through local schools who then provide the survey to students. What information is requested? Complete a survey for each contracted provider in the system. Why is this information requested? Provides GaDOE with information on the district perspective of SES provider compliance and interaction with the district, service delivery, and satisfaction with the SES provider. Results in program modifications and/or follow-up with individual providers. Data is used in the SES provider report cards. How are surveys disseminated & collected? UGA provides Title I Directors with a Website link to access surveys. Title I Directors complete a survey for each provider applicable provider on the Website. Title I Directors submit each completed survey on the Website. What information is requested? Provide aggregate information on district and school level eligibility and participation. Why is this information requested? Provides GaDOE with information to track trends as well as information to provide on US Department of Education reports. What information is requested? Information on SES participation for every participating student. Why is this information requested? Allows GaDOE to determine which providers are effective in increasing student achievement. After the UGA evaluation, data is used for the SES provider report cards. How are surveys disseminated & collected? Title I Directors must access the GaDOE Portal and receive approval to receive the survey. Once approval is provided, Title I Directors will enter the required information for each student participating in SES. Once all student information is entered, Title I Directors submit the data on the GaDOE Portal.
