High-Level Job Interviews
UEN Bridge Candidate Acano Space Hiring Committee in IVC Conference Room Tammy Interviews for Deans or Vice Presidents, etc. This past Spring, we were asked to assist in the interviews for a new Dean of the College of Fine Arts. The hiring committee asked for our help in interviewing eleven semi-final candidates via interactive video conferencing prior to flying finalists in for in-person interviews. Tammy set up individual Acano spaces for each candidate (to avoid the possibility candidates might accidentally see each other) then coordinated with each candidate to test his/her connection before the interviews. Tammy also pre-scheduled the connections of each Acano space with the SILL IVC conference room and added a recorder to the connections. During interviews, Tammy was on hand to help in the event there were technical glitches. Once each interview was over, Tammy cropped the recordings, downloaded them, and uploaded them to a secure Box folder so the hiring committee members could access them. Ed Psych In-Class Group Work
UEN Bridge Students in IVC Classroom Instructor and Students in IVC Classroom During in-class group work, the instructor would ask the remote students to hop over to the Acano Space for private check-ins. Dolores Instructor wanted a way to check in with his remote students during group work/discussions. We set up an Acano space for him and saved that space as a contact on the local codec. We also saved the regular class bridged event as a local contact. We then taught the remote students how to quickly dial into either the Acano space or the bridged event so they could pop between the two at the instructor’s discretion. The instructor popped into the Acano space on his laptop during group work. Instructor Checking in on Remote Group Acano Space Students in IVC Classroom

Gave her a full account, and she still had problems, so she ended up calling into the UEN bridge on a phone line to participate. Because there were no visual participants in the UEN bridge, we had to call in each session and ask UEN to mute the bridge’s video in Acano Manager because the bridge was showing a mirror of the conference to the Acano participants. Lessons Learned Not all devices are created equal!
Firewalls can cause issues Playing videos – VLC media player Guest vs. client: when should a client be requested? Maximum number of participants What lessons have you learned? Tammy People use all different types of devices-ages, capabilities. Test and train! Firewall can cause issues. UEN TSSC has been very helpful troubleshooting. Some devices have built-in copyright protection (antipiracy) which prevents the videos from playing in Acano. VLC media player is a potential workaround. Free media that can be downloaded. Guest – works best for short term use. Request Client after testing and troubleshooting. Max participants – Determine on a case by case basis; When in doubt check with Kim or Charice.
