WELCOME TO Mrs. Martinez’s English class!

A Little Bit About Mrs. Martinez
-Originally from Colorado but have lived in Arizona now for 13 years -Began Undergraduate work at San Francisco State -Earned 1st Master’s Degree from Cal State -Earned 2nd Master’s Degree from GCU -Hobbies: Sports, sporting events, concerts and music, fishing, watching my kids play sports (especially softball)

Supply List Be prepared for class with the following supplies: Casteel Student Agenda Pencils Blue and Black Pens Highlighters (3 different colors) College-ruled composition notebook or spiral notebook College-ruled lined paper Two-pocket folder Small Post-It Notes or Flags Personal Reading Book Individual copy of class novel (recommended)

Homework/Reading Expectations
Most of the novel readings will be done at school but some will have to take place at home. If you do not read the required material at home, you will not do well in this class. Most writing for assignments will take place at home. Due dates are extremely important, so be organized and don’t fall behind!

Executive Functions and Late work.
-Organizational skills are a must! (It effects your grade!) -Make sure to put your name on all of your work. -Come prepared and do not procrastinate!

-This website if vital to your success in this class. -If you are absent- check my website for regular class agenda’s and details on homework and assignments. -Also check the crate for any handouts that were given out in class while you were out. -For EXCUSED absences only, you will be given one day per day missed to make up assignments. -It is YOUR responsibility to bring printed handouts to class and make up your work you missed.

CHEATING/PLAGIARISM:
Plagiarism will NOT BE TOLERATED Any work or tests that exhibit plagiarism will result in a zero on the paper and disciplinary action will be taken.

Food/Drink/Gum Policy
-Food will not be tolerated during class time- eating will result in you picking up trash from my floor after class, and/or a referral. -No gum at all on campus. -Water only in the classroom.

Student Expectations -Be respectful to others and class visitors
-When you enter the room, it should be quiet and not rowdy. -Be prepared when the bell rings- there will always be bell work at the beginning of class each day. -Cell phones and other devices that interrupt class will be confiscated. -Restroom Passes- one person at a time. -Bring personal reading book to class. -Remain in your seat until I dismiss you.

FORMATTING -All word-processed papers and assignments will be formatted with standard MLA headings. -Here’s an example of a heading for every single assignment: Student Name Mrs. Martinez English 9, Period 1 25 July 2016

Tips for Success Come to class ☺
Make sure your name is on EVERYTHING you turn in. (MLA FORMAT) Make it a habit to check your grade on Infinite Campus (help me correct human error) Turn in all of your work/assignments. Keep your agenda/planner organized Consistently check the classroom website/calendar BE A SELF STARTER
