1 Ms. Dougherty’s Classroom Procedures and Expectations 6th Grade English

2 Procedures What are procedures?
Procedures are the way in which we do things. Before you cross the street, you need to look both ways. These are the procedures for this classroom. I will follow them as well since we are all part of this class. Keeping a positive attitude is how we will all succeed.

3 Entering class Come to class on time Come to class prepared
Take your journal from your class bin Sit down in your assigned seat Complete the Do Now in your journal quietly and by yourself unless the assignment says otherwise. These Do Now assignments will be given a grade at the end of each week.

4 Exiting class The bell does not dismiss you. I dismiss you.
Closure-Stoplight Take all of your belongings with you when you leave. Push your chair in (if you have a chair that is not connected to the desk) Place your journals back in your class bin

5 During class Listen to Ms. Dougherty with full attention while she is teaching. Listening time is not note-taking time. I will tell you when you should take notes. Raise your hand and wait for me to call on you before you speak. Keep questions on the topic we are talking about. Any questions not related to the topic can be placed in the Parking Lot.

6 When Ms. Dougherty raises her hand…
Stop what you are doing Stop talking Wait for instruction

7 Bathroom, Office, Nurse If you need to use the bathroom, you will hold up your index finger. I will nod to you if you can go. If someone else is in the bathroom, I will tell you can go when they come back. If you need to go to the nurse, hold up two fingers. I will dismiss you to the nurse during the next break in instruction. Only one person is allowed out at a time unless they have a note excusing them from class. Write your name, class, date, time-out, and reason for leaving in the sign out book. Take the appropriate pass. Hang up the pass, and sign back in when you come back.

8 Homework Any homework to be collected will be passed to the window side of the room and then up to the front desk when I ask for it. Absent/late work will be turned in at the table in the front of the room. Take an absent/late slip from the bin. Fill it out. Staple it to your homework. Leave it in the Absent/Late bin.

9 Grading Major Assessments (Tests, Projects, Essays, Book Reports, etc.) Minor Assessments (Graded Classwork, Quizzes, Classroom Participation, etc.) Homework 50% 35% 15% TOTAL %

10 Tardiness If you are late to class for any reason, come into class quietly. Immediately give me a tardy pass if you have one. Take your journal from your class bin, and take your seat. I will talk to you one-on-one during a break in instruction or at the end of class.

11 Late Work Each day an assignment is late will result in a 10% grade deduction. No late work will be accepted after 4 days.

12 Excused Absences All worksheets, notes, and classwork can be found in your class absent binder on the front table. The first day you come back to school after being absent, go to the absent binder when you get your journal from the bin at the beginning of class. Take out your missing work. You will have as many days as you were absent to make up your work. For example, if you are absent one day, you have one day to make up your work. No make up work will be accepted for unexcused absences. Make sure you have a note for any absences.

13 Consequences Verbal Warning Written warning and student conference
