Impressionism A Radical Art Movement?
The Art movement known as impressionism began around 1874. Let’s look at some examples.

Impressionism was new In Paris (where impressionism originated) paintings were supposed to be a certain way.

Impressionism did not go well.
Some people thought impressionism was a disgrace to art. No one normally painted quickly and totally outdoors before.

Impressionism was TOO new.
But there were several artists who only wanted to make impressionist art.

Impressionism takes off!
Impressionist artists banded together and held their own shows.

Impressionism influences!
Impressionism grew and eventually influenced many of the American artists you will learn about.
