Tae Kwon Do By: Kimberly Pabon 8A
2
Question Will it depend on the kick to affect the amount of time it will take the martial artist to present it ?
3
Background Research Tae Kwon Do is the way of the hands and feet ( Tae Kwon Do is used as self-defense ( ) It was originated in Korea and it’s known as the Korean Martial Art ( All kicks have more than one area it can aim for ( The key to kicking well is to be able to balance and to snap ( Snapping is important because it hurts your opponent and creates a strong force (

Background Research Part 2
Tae means “ foot ” ( ) Kwon means “ fist ” ( ) Do means “ the way of ”( Most kicks in Tae Kwon Do require the martial artist to turn to the side ( Roundhouse kick and side kick are kicks that require the person to turn to strike the opponent ( Both kicks can be aimed at different points of the body all the way from your ankle to your head (taekwondo.wikia.com/wiki/Side_Kick)

Side Kick

Hypothesis It all depends on the person and how fast they are able to perform that certain kick If the person has a good balance and knows how to perform the basic technique of the kick the kick will be faster If the person doesnt have a good aim ,balance, and doesnt know how to perform the kick. The time will be much longer The faster the kick is performed the shorter amount of time will be It also depends on how much experience the martial artist has because the martial artist could have more experience and flexibility. With that the kick would usually come out faster

Variable Control: My timer will be my control because I will be comparing my kicks to the time it took me to present it Independent Variable: I will be changing the kick I will be performing Dependent Variable: The kick that is performed will change and so will the time. The time of each kick might be different depending on the kick itself Constant I will be performing the kicks with the same clothes Both kicks will be timed The same timer will be used The flooring will be the same Both kicks will be aiming for the stomach/chest area
9
Materials Timer A notepad Flat platform Target/Person
10
Procedure The first kick I will perform is a roundhouse kick at a normal speed. Afterwards, once I am done I will stop my timer and move on to performing a side kick and the whole cycle will be repeated. This time I will now perform both kicks again but at a faster speed.
11
Data The fast speed was faster than the normal speed
12
Data Part 2 In the normal speed it had taken longer than the fast speed
13
Results Both kicks were tested as shown on the graph. The roundhouse kick took longer than the side kick . In both kicks when I tested it at a normal speed it had taken longer than when it was tested at a fast speed.
14
Conclusion In conclusion, it doesnt depend on the kick to affect the amount of time it will take the martial artist to present it as much. It all depends on the person and their ability to perform the kick . Meaning the person must be able to have the certain flexibility to perform the kick because with out it the kick might not come out all that well or it will take longer.
